Big Basin
By Robyn Aber

I shot these massive trees on a visit to Big Basin Redwoods State Park (CA). I was intrigued that trees so charred & damaged by fire could continue to stand, no less flourish; it seemed inspirational. My goal was to capture the burn scars in the trees, as well as their soaring height. I shot three bracketed exposures (1-stop difference each) and combined them in Photoshop to bring out the shadow detail. To emphasize height, I sat on the ground, leaned back, and angled the camera up to enhance the steep linear perspective. Canon XSi with Tamron 17-280mm lens.

Rhodendron Close-up
By Alan Imada

This macro image of the rhododendron flower was taken in late May at the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park which is located near Woodstock, VT.  The macro image was selected from a larger image of the flower which was cropped to emphasize the details shown.  The flower was taken with my Fuji FinePix S5200 (ISO 64, 1/150 sec, f/3.2).
